Early Childhood Intervention

Arizona Early Intervention Program (AzEIP) is run through the Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD). Around the time that children receiving services are about the age of two years and six months, they are introduced to their home school district. This gives the school district’s Special Education Services Department time to review each file to determine the need for school based special education services. The goal of 100% compliance is a multidisciplinary team effort between DDD and the home school district to either find the children eligible or not eligible for special education services and present them, as indicated, with an established intervention plan by the time they are three years old.

Child Find 

What is Child Find?
Child Find originated from and is mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Act. Child Find is a comprehensive screening given to children around the ages of three to five prior to their admission into kindergarten.

What are the areas addressed during the Child Find screenings?
There is a team of professionals conducting each screening. The professionals may include special education teachers, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and school psychologists. Five developmental areas are screened:
fine and gross motor, cognition and conceptual knowledge, hearing and vision, speech and language, and adaptive and social.
The screening also includes a brief medical history review and family interview.

What are the Child Find screening dates?
This is a free service. Anticipate spending approximately one hour for each screening. It is important that the parent remains at the Child Find location for the duration of the screening. Please contact Lisa Youtsey at (520) 723-2065 to schedule your child’s Child Find screening.
